Compare four US checking accounts by the costs and conditions that affect everyday banking: monthly fees, cash deposits, ATMs and overdrafts. See when $0 means no monthly fee, and when you have to qualify for a waiver.
Four accounts picked to show different fee and access trade-offs. This is not the whole US market and not a ranking. Facts come from each bank’s own pages; the bank’s terms decide what applies to you. WalletNoodle has no affiliate deals, earns nothing from these links and takes no applications. How we make money
What does $0 checking really mean?20 seconds · Silent video · Press play to watch
No monthly fee: the bank does not charge a monthly maintenance fee for the account. That alone does not tell you what every service costs.
A waived monthly fee: the account has a fee, but the bank removes it when you meet its conditions for the statement period. Depending on the account, a qualifying deposit, balance or linked account may be one route. Read the exact definition and timing.
Check separately: ATM charges, wires and overdraft terms. These vary by account; not every bank charges all of them. The example statements in the video are illustrations, not real offers.

Picked by hand from each bank’s own pages, to show different fee and access trade-offs. We did not open these accounts or test them. Where a fact is missing we say “Not confirmed” instead of guessing. A $0 monthly fee covers that fee only: ATM, wire, foreign transaction and other service fees can still apply, so read the bank’s fee schedule before you open an account. Read how we compare.
