US checking account
Chase Total Checking
Branch and ATM cash deposits, with a monthly fee that can be waived. Compare the recurring waiver requirements with how money normally enters your account.
This page sums up Chase’s own pages in our words, as checked on Oct 17, 2026. It is not an offer. The bank’s account agreement and fee schedule decide what applies, and terms can change.
Where it fits
Branch access with a conditional monthly-fee waiver
The monthly fee, and how it can be waived
The monthly fee is $15. You avoid it only in a period where you meet one of the waiver conditions below. If none is met, the fee applies, so pick the condition you would meet anyway, without extra effort.
Waiver conditions
- Receive $500 or more in qualifying electronic deposits during the statement period.
- Keep at least $1,500 at the beginning of every day in the statement period.
- Maintain an average beginning-day balance of $5,000 or more, counting eligible linked deposits or investments.
- Link to a qualifying checking account. See Chase's list of eligible accounts.
ATMs and cash deposits
ATM access
Use Chase ATMs to avoid Chase's non-network fee. Non-Chase withdrawals cost $3 in the US/territories or $5 elsewhere, plus possible operator and currency fees.
Cash deposits
The sources confirm at least one way to deposit cash.
Deposit cash at Chase branches and deposit-taking Chase ATMs.
Overdrafts
Overdraft fees can apply.
$34 per qualifying overdraft transaction, up to three fees per business day. Overdraft Assist waives fees when you end the day no more than $50 overdrawn, or restore that position by the end of the next business day. Other exceptions and cutoff times apply.
What you need, and other conditions
To open the account
Account approval is required. You can hold the account without a fee waiver; the $15 monthly fee then applies.
Other conditions
- Qualifying electronic deposits have a specific definition. Do not assume your own bank transfer qualifies.
- A waived monthly fee does not waive every ATM, overdraft or other service charge. Overdraft payments are discretionary.
Deposit insurance
FDIC coverage is generally $250,000 per depositor, per insured bank, per ownership category. Deposits in the same category at the same bank are combined.
