A monthly maintenance fee is a charge a bank takes just for keeping your account open. Some accounts never charge it. Others only skip it if you follow a rule, like keeping enough money in. And “no monthly fee” does not automatically mean every service is free.

Each account below lists no monthly maintenance fee. Check the bank terms for any balance or funding rules. The real differences are elsewhere: how fast you must fund the account, how you get money out, and which other actions cost money. None of them is best for everyone.

Separate these three ideas. Only the first is about the monthly fee, and a waived fee is still a fee.
Three ways a savings account can charge you.
This guide only lists accounts in the first group. That saves you from watching a balance rule each month. It does not make every transfer or service free, so each account below has a note on its other charges.
A to Z is an order, not a ranking, and this is not the whole market. The rate is each bank’s standard rate on the date shown, not a promotion. The “watch for” notes are our own reading of the bank’s pages. We haven’t opened these accounts.
Ally Bank
Variable. The bank lists it as effective Oct 8, 2026.
Watch for: Ally lists fees for outgoing domestic wires and for expedited delivery. Going over the transfer limit has no fee, but doing it again and again can get the account closed.
Ally Savings Account detailsAmerican Express National Bank
Variable. The bank lists it as effective Oct 11, 2026.
Watch for: American Express says there are no monthly fees. That is not the same as no fee for every action, so read the account agreement.
American Express High Yield Savings detailsTexas Capital Bank
Variable. The bank's page showed no effective date.
Watch for: Bask says transaction service fees can apply. An account left empty too long after opening may be closed.
Bask Interest Savings Account detailsThese sound alike but are different rules. The opening deposit is the least you must put in to open the account. A funding deadline is how long you have to move money in after you open it.
An account can need no money to open and still need money soon after.
A tip: have the money ready in your linked bank before you apply. Then the deadline is not something you have to remember.
No monthly fee keeps the account itself free to hold. Moving money is where costs and delays can show up, and where these accounts differ most.
